Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I was wondering just what Thanksgiving Day would mean to you. I know that not all our members celebrate Thanksgiving, but if you were to celebrate it, how would you and what would a day of Thanks mean to you?
Thanksgiving in the US is a day meant to celebrate all the things that others have done for us over the past year. Many say thanks to God(s) for the blessings in their life. The day was actually started by the Pilgrims who landed on Plymouth Rock, Mass. in 1621. After a long voyage to the New World from England, the Pilgrims were glad to see land, any land. They came here to start a new life, one of liberty and freedom from religious persecutions. There has been a lot of discussion over when and where this first Thanksgiving happened...some say it actually took place in Florida in 1565, though most US History books will not mention Florida nor 1565. LOL As the story goes, as I heard it, the Pilgrims, new to this land, were having a hard go of it. They didn't know how to plow the land, grow food, or to even hunt for game. When winter came along, they started to starve, as the food and supplies brought with them was by now long gone. It seems a friendly Indian, Native American to those who are Politically Correct, tribe took pity upon them. They went and helped them survive the harsh winter. After having survived their first year in this new harsh world, the Pilgrims held a Harvest Festival, which included the new crops they had learned to grow and the game they had learned to kill.
(Some say that is a myth, and it is all pink smoke being blown up American asses.....but hey....it means saying thanks and eating turkey...its all good. LOL)
